OBJECTIVE: MUSICAL THEATRE: OLIVER
1. Reviewed songs and main characters we had seen at the last showing and added them to our report:

...........3)He used the boys to steal for him and in return he fed and gave them shelter.

...........5)Fagin was a thief but he was not a murderer.

OBJECTIVE: PREPARATION FOR HOLIDAY PERFORMANCE/NOTE READING FINGERED NOTES 1. TUNE
2. DO-RE-MI-FA/FA-MI-RE-DO ( 0 1 23 32 1 0 ) each string bowing UH and LH
.....a. Reviewed about the 3rd finger and how in this fingering pattern 2nd and 3rd fingers touch or "feel the skin" of each other ("tip to tip")
.....b. Reviewed and quizzed the note name of the 3rd finger on each string by using this rule:
..........1)3rd finger on the string is the same note as the neighboring lower open string
..........2)Example:
.............a)3rd finger on the "D" string is note G
.............b)3rd finger on the "A" string is note D
.............c)3rd finger on the "E" string is note A
..........3)This rule cannot be applied to the "G" string as there is no lower string.
3. GOOD KING WENCESLAS

.....b. Requires the need to learn how to read new notes besides the open string notes we have already learned.
.....c. By using a few conceptual rules, by knowing the musical location of the open strings on the music staff, all the other notes and fingerings (in the first position) will be easy to identify.
.....d. UNDERSTANDING THE CONCEPT OF PUTTING (ADDING) FINGERS DOWN ON A STRING CONSECUTIVELY
..........1)The more fingers added on to a single string makes the string shorter so the shorter the string the higher it's pitch.
..........2)Each pitch is given a letter of the musical alphabet (A, B, C, D, E, F, or G)
..........3)Starting with an open string letter name, every time you put down (or add) a finger in consecutive order the added finger raises the pitch and letter name of the musical alphabet by one.
.............a)Ex: A string: 0=A, 1=B, 2=C, 3=D, 4=E
..........4)Question asked: Why are there only 7 letters in the musical alphabet?
.............a)Using the keyboard we reviewed the patterns on the keys (5 black keys named sharps and/or flats..we had already had a lesson on this)
.............b)If there are only 5 black keys in the pattern how many white keys are there?
.............c)Answer was 7.
.............d)That is why there are only 7 letters in the musical alphabet (the black keys are named after the white keys)
.............e)The 7 white keys of the keyboard are given the first 7 letters of the alphabet( in music it is called thwe "musical alphabet"); since the pattern of the white keys starts all over again, after the letter "G" the next letter will go back to "A" and the pattern restarts
..........5)We reviewed the letter names of the notes on each string
.....e. CONCEPT OF MOVING IN STEP-WISE MOTION ON THE MUSICAL STAFF and VIOLIN FINGERING
..........1)Review the musical staff which consists of 5 lines and 4 spaces that notes sit on
.............a)Space note: a note that sits on space; has either a line above and/or below it but never in the center
.............b)Line note: a note which always has a line in its center
.............c)Leger line: added lines to the staff; can either be above or below
..........2)We have already been reading the open string notes in music notation. All open string notes are "space" notes.
..............a)By adding the first finger down on the open string the note will move up to the very next line.
..............b) By adding the second finger down next to the first finger that note will be located on the very next space, etc. ..............c) So, (in the first position):
..................1)Odd numbered fingers (1,3) will be used on lined notes
..................2)Even numbered fingers (0, 2, 4) will be used on space notes
.....f. CONCEPT OF MOVING IN STEP-WISE MOTION ON THE MUSICAL STAFF and NOTE READING
..........1)Every time the note moves up from a space to the very next line or a line to the very next space the note name is one letter higher in the musical alphabet
.............a)If open "A" is a space note then first finger on the "A" string is line note (called B)
.............b)If first finger on the "A" string is a line note (called B) then second finger on the "A" string is a space note [called C(#)]

.....a. Beginning violin parts were added during HR
.....b. Started with beginning violin part (7th grade 5th period beginning violin students from HR)
.....c. Added advanced violin parts
.....d. Next week to teach and add in the harmony part
5. Preparation for the Harvest Festival Performance
......a. There are 9 practice sessions (days left) before the concert
......b. We will be performing on the outside stage in the early part of the festival
......c. When we are finished we can put our instruments away in the room and enjoy rest of the festivities
