COMPOSER
CHOPIN

Ballade in G minor No. 1 Op. 23
Played by Vladimir Horowitz

BALLADE
Chopin wrote four ballades composed between 1835 and 1842.  These ballades are one-movement pieces for solo piano and are a novel innovation of Chopin's which cannot be placed into an established musical category for its time. The older definition of the term ballade (French for "ballad") refers to a one-movement musical piece with lyrical and dramatic narrative qualities.
