WHAT WE DID TODAY #1-45: FRIDAY; NOVEMBER 5, 2010

GENERAL MUSIC PERIODS 2,3,6
COMPOSER: PETER ILYICH TCHAIKOVSKY: Nutcracker Suite:

March:

Term: What is a SUITE?

1.An instrumental composition, especially of the 17th or 18th century, consisting of a succession of dances in the same or related keys.
2.An instrumental composition consisting of a series of varying movements or pieces.

In music, a suite is an ordered set of instrumental or orchestral pieces normally performed in a concert setting rather than as accompaniment; they may be extracts from an opera, ballet, (Nutcracker Suite) or incidental music to a play (L'Arlésienne Suites) or film (Lieutenant Kije Suite), or they may be entirely original movements (Holberg Suite, The Planets).

We reviewed what we had previously seen and what we were about to view.

Due to minimum day shortened schedule we put off writing down the current information into our musical reports until the next viewing of the film.

4. Keyboard practice for min-recital next week

MINI-KEYBOARD RECITAL IS SCHEDULED THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 8, 9, 10.

DECEMBER 9th is the holiday concert for chorus, band, and strings. Recorder students are invited to play their instruments ("recorder carolling") as the pre-concert activity outside of the gym. This is not mandatory; just a fun way to celebrate the holidays through music. We will play the holiday music learned in class. All students need to bring is their recorder; music and accompaniments will be already set-up. More details to follow as I get them.
