This is a traditional Spanish carol--
a 'nana,' or lullaby--to the Christ child.
A la nanita nana is actually an
Ecuadorian villancico (Christmas
carol) by Segundo Cueva Celi
The change from minor to a major key is a
common and distinctive device (making the
song a very notable one, and interesting to
the ear) in Hispanic folk songs, with the
phrase "a la nanita nana" (A la nanita nana,
peace attend Thee.") a soothing refrain similar
to "lullaby, lullaby" in English.
